         Did you know that Hollins Dining....

            -Processes used cooking oils into biofuel

            -Offers locally grown foods whenever possible

            -Ware washing chemicals that utilize 95% less packaging and uses less water

            -SCA napkin program is designed to use 25% less napkins than traditional napkin systems

            -Uses napkins that are 100% post consumer and 100% bleach free

            -Offers Fair Trade varieties of coffee at Jazzman's

         -Is Styrofoam free

            Utilizing bulk packaged products cuts down on the amount of packaging that ends up in waste facilities.

          By moving just our condiments to the pump system utilizing bulk products, we have reduced the amount of :

· Cardboard by 28 pounds a week, during our 32 week school year that is 896 pounds of cardboard
· Plastic containers by 272 bottles used on the tables each week, during our 32 week school year that is 8704 plastic bottles

 

 

Food Alliance: Sustainable products are those considered to be environmentally friendly and socially responsible, and Food Alliance certified farmers must meet strict standards in reducing the use of pesticides, conserving natural resources and wildlife habitats conservation and providing safe and fair conditions for their workers.
